Visit our centre, which is unique in many ways:

  • it is the first and the only Astronomical Centre in Croatia which includes both, the observatory and the planetarium 
  • the digital planetarium is the only one of its kind, not only in Croatia, but also in the region
  • it is one of the few centres that can be reached by a city bus
  • it is located on the top of the Sv. Križ Hill (the Holy Cross Hill), which is considered to be the oldest archaeological site in Rijeka and has been protected as cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia since May 2006
  • it is the greatest investment in technical culture in Croatia
  • it  had been used as a military fortress during the World War II and was adapted afterwards
  • two variable stars were discovered from the local observatory
  • it is a winner of the special Blue Flower Award granted by the Tourist Board of the Primorsko-goranska County for the category "Tourist offer and sightseeing venues" as a part of the educational ecology project "I love Croatia"
  • it is a winner of the Association of Innovators Sigma–CBTour 2011 Award, granted for the best marketing strategy in innovative business tourism
  • the project "Integrated marketing, communications and programme strategy of the Astronomical Centre Rijeka has been integrated into the General Plan and Strategy for Tourism Development in the Republic of Croatia,
  • it is a winner of International Property Award 2014 for Europe in category Public Service Development,
  • it is a member of the IPS (International Planetarium Society)
  • it is easy accessible and suitable for the disabled
  • in the immediate vicinity of the Centre is a medieval church Sveti Križ
  • the shortest glagolitic inscription dating back to the 13th century and a statue of the Capitoline Wolf have been found on the Sv. Križ Hill 
  • it is surrounded by a park with natural sub-Mediterranean vegetation
  • the centre is situated on the new walkway, halfway between Plumbum-Trsat
  • Free Internet access is provided (wireless).

Stellar game

This presentation is suitable for the youngest, for the kindergarten children who will learn, while ''playing'', to recognize and draw constellations, hear about the telescope and other objects that can be seen in the night sky.  

The 10 best Constellations

This planetarium live show guides the wide public through the main constellations of the Northern Hemispheres, for every time of the year. During the presentation the audience learn how to find a single constellation, how to recognize their the most brightest Stars and to find out more about their the most interesting mythology stories.

From the first year of operation, planetarium visitors every Friday regularly can see the live presentation- Guide to the night sky.  It shows the evening sky over Rijeka and every visitor can see sky of northern hemisphere.

Story About Stars

Breathtaking beauty of the night sky has been intriguing us forever. This interactive presentation introduces stars and everything we know about them.  Visitors will learn about stars´ importance and find out more about our Sun, its rotation and its affects on the life on Earth. Visitors will get to know more about constellations and how to recognize them.  

Searching for Comets

This interactive presentation, shown at digital planetarium, starts with the story about famous French astronomer from 18th century, Charless Messier who was studying and discovering comets. 

Christmas at the planetarium

Which stars can be seen from Rijeka at Christmas time, what is Christmas star (the Star of Bethlehem), what did three wise men see in the sky when Jesus was born, what did the sky look like at the presumed time of Christ's birth...?

A Walk along the Solar System

This planetarium show will surely be interesting for the youngest family members and the parents will have the opportunity to find out more about the solar system. Learn about the sun and all the planets, discover the size of the solar system at the same time as taking a long walk along our Galaxy.

News in astronautics

News in astronautics is an interactive live presentation introducing the freshest achievements in exploration of celestial objects in Solar System in 2015 using spacecraft. Presentation mentions spacecraft Messenger which explores Mercury and is about to finish its mission successfully.
