Astronomical centre Rijeka will join and promote the World Space Week by holding events and extraordinary programs during October 4-7. The theme for World Space Week 2011 is "50 Years of Human Spaceflight".
The Astronomical centre Rijeka program for the World Space Week 2011:
a) From Earth to Space – new thematic show, planetarium of Rijeka, 4-6 October at 9 pm.
This planetarium show will be interesting for wide public that will have the opportunity to find out more about the space exploration: discover how the development of rockets and the advances in electronics and other technologies in the 20th century, it became possible to send machines and animals and then people above Earth's atmosphere into outer space. The show will allow visitors to follow astronautics from the earliest days end to see how the achieving spaceflight enabled humans to begin to explore the solar system and the rest of the universe.
b) New space travellers – thematic presentation of the Modeler's club "Zeppelin" Rijeka, big hall, 4-7 October at 7 pm.
The public presentation is open to all curious to find out more about the latest developments on space agencies and nations that are involved in the space exploration and how this influenced the 'model-making world'.
c) "Yury Gagarin" – documentary photo exhibition, glass wall hallway, from 5th October
In the occasion of the World Space Week 2011 theme "50 Years of Human Spaceflight", on 5th October (6 pm.) will be open the exhibition "Yury Gagarin". The photo exhibition is made possible by the Russian Embassy in Croatia, the Association of Russian minority "Ruski Dom" in Kvarner County. The visitor will have the opportunity to see more than 30 documentary photo about Yury Gagrin and his historic accomplishment: before and after the first manned 108-minute orbital flight in 1961 on his Vostok 1 spacecraft, launched from one of Cosmodrome Baikonur's launch pads; his parents and family, colleagues astronauts.
d) Models "Soyuz TM-13" and "Space Shutle Atlantis" – permanent exhibition, hallway and big hall, from 4th October
In the occasion of the World Space Week in the Astronomical centre Rijeka will be exposed the two finely crafted and beautifully detailed, scale models of "Soyuz TM-13" and "Space Shutle Atlantis", produced entirely by hand, one at a time by the members of the Modeler's club "Zeppelin" Rijeka.
The regular Astronomical centre Rijeka program is held from Tuesday to Saturday (on Saturday 8th October the Center will be closed for national holiday) at 7.30 pm. with the planetarium film "Touching the Edge of the Universe" and the live show "A Guide to the Night Sky – Autumn" (Fridays at 9 pm). During the morning on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thurstday on the program are live planetarium shows for the kindergarten, elementary and high school kids.
The manifestation was declared in 1999 by the United Nations General Assembly "to celebrate each year at the international level the contributions of space science and technology to the betterment of the human condition".
