The Astronomical Centre Rijeka is organising this year’s Dark Sky Week, an event taking place from 17th until 20th April 2012. A presentation called Rhythm of Life – Modern Technologies for Development and Environmental Protection will be held in the Great Hall. Visitors will also have the possibility of seeing Best Astrophotography, an exhibition held in the premises of the Centre, under the auspices of the British Council in Croatia. We would like to remind you that April 2012 has been declared Global Astronomy Month.
Rhythm of Life – Modern Technologies for Development and Environmental Protection is a lecture presenting ideas which any inhabitant of Planet Earth can apply as an individual and a member of society to harmonise the rhythm of life and the rhythm of nature. Visitors will have the chance to acquaint themselves with novelties regarding the use of technologies which help development and environmental protection, together with the newly passed Light Pollution Protection Law of the Republic of Croatia, as well as advanced technologies of public lighting which make it possible to significantly reduce light pollution and energy consumption. Visitors will also be able to get advice on how to spend energy as rationally and efficiently as possible on an individual level.
The lecture is going to be held by the representatives of Cezar Association, in cooperation with the Astronomical Centre Rijeka and Rijeka Sport Ltd. It starts at 8 PM, immediately after the regular film projection in the Planetarium. Admission is free for all visitors.
Best Astrophotography is the name of an exhibition hosted by the Astronomical Centre Rijeka until 15th May 2012. The exhibition has been organised in the framework of the 2012 Science Festival, under the auspices of the British Council in Croatia. It features the authors of some of the finest astrophotography of recent years. The competition includes several top astrophotographers and has been organised by the Royal Observatory in Greenwich in cooperation with Sky at Night magazine.
